DDay Pairing (1944) (oversize)
DDay Pairing (1944) (oversize)
A breathtaking pairing of oversize prints depicting the beaches of Normandy days after the DDay invasion, on June 12 and June 18. The large format and view of these prints do an excellent job conveying the scale of the landing, an incredible feat of military logistics.
The June 18 (14x10.5") shot does a particularly good job of this: depicting ships at sea, personnel on the beach, armor and transport, as well as being foregrounded by a barrage zeppelin. It also depicts a shattered German pillbox and newly constructed US "office" building.
The June 14 shot (16.5x10.75") shows mainly light transport, with a few heavier vehicles and a piece of artillery.
You would be hard pressed to find vintage captures of this size of this historic moment.
Both prints are on photographic paper and bear a crease that runs from top to bottom about 1" in from the left side, and other edge/corner wear, but are otherwise in great condition for their age and size.
