USS Utah: Pearl Harbor Casualty (oversize)
USS Utah: Pearl Harbor Casualty (oversize)
An excellent vintage oversize (17x9.5") capture of some of the aftermath of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The copy on verso reads:
Official navy photo shows, for the first time, the fate of the 33-year-old battleship Utah, long used by the Navy as a target ship, in Japan's sneak attack on Pearl Harbo Dec. 7th, precipitating blazing war on a dozen Pacific battlefronts. Military experts attribute the ferocity of the aerial attack on the Utah to the belief that the Japanese had identified her as a United States airplane carrier. The Japanese radio, for weeks afterward, claimed the sinking of a carrier.
Print has significant edge wear, including two ~1" tears on the left side, and discoloration/editorial marking visible in scan.
